ROATAN is born from the ALMA de LUCE®’s tribute to one of the most endangered living structures of nature in the world, the coral reefs.
Coral reefs are more than “just rocks”, they’re immense constructions built by an intricate assembly of living beings. They grow slowly, but steadily, into vibrant oases in the proverbial desert that the ocean can be sometimes. Coral reefs are often called by rainforests of the sea.
They are one of the most productive but threatened ecosystems.
Roatán is an island in the Caribbean, about 65 kilometers of the northern coast of Honduras. Roatán is surrounded by the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the world’s 2nd largest barrier reef.
This Barrier Reef is home of hundreds of fish species, marine turtles and sharks. Along the shores, mangroves protect the coast from hurricane damage, and provide habitat for fish and shorebirds. Reef systems are very delicate and have experienced massive damage and degradation worldwide.
Let´s inspire ourselves to protect and value nature, the most perfect and unique WORLD HERITAGE.
